Privacy Policy

Effective 11 October 2026

This policy explains what Tewtors™ collects, why, and what you can do about it. Tewtors is operated by Rick Tew, who is responsible for your information. Questions or requests go through our contact form.

What we collect

  • Your account: your name, your email, and that you confirmed your age (13 or older when you sign up, and 18 or older before you pay), with the date. Your password is stored scrambled, never as readable text.
  • What you do in the app: your progress, your streak, and what you write or choose in it, such as worksheets, maps and settings.
  • Tewtors Connect: your requests and answers, and the photos or videos you upload with them. Live calls are not recorded.
  • Payments: our payment processor handles your card. We keep your membership status and what you bought, never your full card number.
  • Security information: your IP address, browser and device type, and the time of each request, so we can keep Tewtors safe and block bots and abuse.
  • Messages: what you send us through the contact form or by email.

How we use it

  • To run the app and your account, and save your progress.
  • To take payments and send you emails about your account and membership.
  • To keep Tewtors secure and block bots, fraud and abuse.
  • To answer you when you write to us.
  • To meet our legal duties, such as tax and payment records.

We do not sell your personal information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles. If you are in the EU or the UK, we rely on our contract with you to run your account and membership, on our legitimate interest in keeping Tewtors secure, and on our legal duties for records we must keep.

Who we share it with

Only with the people and services that need it to run Tewtors:

  • The service providers that run Tewtors for us under contract: hosting and database, payment processing, email delivery, and a security check at sign-in. They may use your information only to provide their service to us.
  • On Tewtors Connect, the teacher you send a request to sees your request and what you send with it. A teacher's profile is shown to members.
  • Anyone the law requires us to share it with.
  • A new owner, if Tewtors is ever sold or reorganized, under this same policy.

Where it is stored

Our providers store and process information mainly in the United States. If you live elsewhere, your information is transferred there, with the safeguards the law requires.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your information within 30 days, except what the law requires us to keep, such as payment and tax records.

Cookies and storage

We use a sign-in cookie so the app knows it is you, and we store your progress so it is there when you return. The security check at sign-in may set its own cookie to tell people from bots. We do not use advertising trackers, analytics trackers, or session recording.

Your rights

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to get a copy to take elsewhere. You can view and update your name in your account. To make a request, use our contact form; we may ask you to confirm it is you, and we reply within one month. We never treat you differently for making a request.

If you are in the EU or the UK, you can also object to or restrict how we use your information, and complain to your data protection authority. If you are in California, you have the right to know, delete and correct your information, and we do not sell or share it.

Teens and children

Tewtors is for people 13 and older and is not directed at children under 13. Teens 13 to 17 may have an account of their own. We keep the same things for a teen as for anyone (see What we collect), we do not sell or share them, and a teen cannot pay, ask a teacher or teach on Tewtors Connect. A parent or guardian can ask us to delete a teen's account through our contact form.

Parents and teachers may pass on what they learn to children under 13, but those children do not have accounts. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has given us personal information, we delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, please tell us through our contact form so we can remove it.

Security

We protect your information with encrypted connections, access controls, and by limiting who can see it. No system is perfect; if a breach affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as Tewtors grows. If we make important changes we will let you know. Questions? Contact us.
